Peter Murphy III—known professionally as “Murph”—is an American screenwriter and producer whose work blends grounded realism with high-stakes drama, political intrigue, and character-driven storytelling. Born on July 9, 1961, in Eugene, Oregon, Murphy brings a rare authenticity to his writing, shaped by firsthand experience in industries, environments, and communities often portrayed from the outside.
A graduate of Loyola Marymount University, Murphy has built a career rooted in research, lived experience, and a deep respect for story craft. He currently lives and works in Las Vegas, where he runs his production company, Smoke N Mirrors, developing both feature films and premium television series.
Creative Voice & Background
Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Murphy worked in his family’s logging business, giving him an intimate understanding of small-town economics, generational legacy, environmental responsibility, and the tension between independent operators and powerful institutions. These themes recur throughout his work—often framed as David vs. Goliath stories where personal integrity collides with political and corporate forces.
